Anonymity, Mystery, and secrecy are inherent in the cryptocurrency and Blockchain world. While the world is still trying to figure out the enigma behind Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, there is another one on the list- owner of the web portal Bitcoin.org and Bitcointalk, whose pseudonym is "Cobra Bitcoin." And, don't just go by the name, this person with bizarre anon is a favorite gossip subject in the cryptocurrency community.
The strange thing about our subject is- even though nobody knows him so much yet he holds incredible power in the BTC community. You can call it a Curious Case of 'Cobra Bitcoin,' the outlandish anon with a lot of Power. Now as we talked earlier mystery and anonymity seems to be in DNA of the bitcoiners because- people with the highest influence in Bitcoin community are mostly unidentified. And so much so that the co-owner of Bitcoin.org and Bitcointalk- Theymos, who assists in operating these sites with Cobra Bitcoin is also mostly unknown to the community.
Interestingly, Cobra bitcoin was introduced to the Bitcoin enthusiasts in a Github update which came three years back. It was told that he is the co-owner of Bitcoin.org alongside Theymos. After his first introduction, his commentary and Bitcoin.org Github requests have been very controversial.
Now Cobra has brought up very dubious matters over the years which includes taking off Coinbase from the website’s recommended business list as they said they would only approve an alternative software client other than Bitcoin Core. But this is no end to his tale.
-Cobra has asked the community and fellow Bitcoin.org team members to modify certain statements Satoshi Nakamoto made in the Bitcoin white paper.
-He’s asked the community to change the Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus algorithm.
I just published “An open letter to the Bitcoin community to change the proof-of-work algorithm” https://t.co/OjLLejTtnB— Cøbra (@CobraBitcoin) February 24, 2018
Cobra is not a software developer, but he is mentioned as a contributor to Core’s scaling roadmap. Moreover, there is very little as to no information about his background.
Cobra has a Twitter account and Medium blog. He is very vocal about some particular issues and has written several times that bitcoin is centralized by mining entities, in which he explicitly named Jihan Wu and Bitmain. The Bitcoin.org co-owner has given his piece of mind for an immediate change to the PoW algorithm. And, most popular ones came in November 2017, when he expressed his hate towards bitcoin cash and said one developer and two other men centralized it.
However, on March 5, Cobra seems to have reversed on his statements entirely and supporting bitcoin cash. As of present, he commented that the digital asset could take advantage of the Lightning Network (LN) strategy.
“Increased my holdings of Bitcoin Cash today,” Cobra explains to his Twitter followers.
Increased my holdings of Bitcoin Cash today. There was a long need for a blockchain good for payments, that makes certain tradeoffs to achieve that, and I think from a UX point of view, Bitcoin Cash has much better chances of winning the upcoming payments war than LN.— Cøbra (@CobraBitcoin) March 5, 2018
Lastly, it can be said that no matter whose side you take, it is hard to trust the snake. Nevertheless, the mysterious anon holds a lot of power in his hands.
