The cryptocurrency investor even confirmed to Fortune via email that his team would accept Bitcoin, Ethereum, and tokens “from companies we have business relationships with.”
If we go through the previous reports in the media, The Dallas Mavericks will not be the first team who will be supporting the Bitcoin payment for its games in the NBA season. Long back in 2014, the Sacramento Kings had started allowing for Bitcoin payments for tickets as well as promotional products. However, Cuban is an eminent cryptocurrency enthusiast who has been in news for his investments in digital currency hedge funds. Interestingly, Cuban had also launched an ICO and Etherum-based cryptocurrency Mercury protocol in August 2017.
However, the Cuban’s opinions on cryptocurrencies and its investors have differed over the course of time. There was time last year when he announced to the world that he thinks that cryptocurrency is a bubble and in just matter of months he again proclaimed that crypto is the future of the payment systems in the world and blockchain being the disruptor in major sectors. At that point in time, Cuban included a tip to invest 10% of your life savings in Bitcoin in his video guide on ‘how to get rich’.
He remarked in the video that
“If you’re a true adventurer and you really want to throw the Hail Mary, you might take 10 percent and put it in Bitcoin or Ethereum.”
It is interesting to see billionaires raising their voices publicly in regard to the cryptocurrencies as these assets are facing a difficult time in last few days and all the market in the red bath. Lately, Thiel and Zuckerberg have also talked about the possibilities of investing in cryptocurrency apart from Cuban.
As a result of the Bitcoin high fees and price volatility, gaming platform Steam issued a statement in early December that it would no longer support cryptocurrency. At that point, it took enormous time for Bitcoin systems to complete a transaction, and Steam realized that Bitcoin prices would change radically leading some users to overpay and others to underpay.
