Different Ways to Rope-in the Blockchain Technology into the Education Sector

The Online Education System

Gone are those days, when we need to plan late-nighter in a library during exams. Now, we have the World Wide Web to answer every query and solve every complicated equation. In The current scenario, the online education is witnessing a big boom, right from technical certification to vocational courses, more and more people are embracing digital education.

So, to boil down, the Internet is bringing education to every household,- to those nooks and corners of the world school and colleges are not up to the mark in terms of infrastructure and facility.

What is Blockchain Technology?

Typically, it is a transparent, distributed ledger, can be accessed from a network of computers, it is usually in greater number- like thousands. With no centralised governing the data being shared over this network, makes it revolutionary technology invention defining the length and breadth of governance for a healthy investor environment.

Blockchain, without a dilemma, has the biggest innovation post Internet era. It has already invaded our lives for the goods in the form of Cryptocurrency like Bitcoin. Bitcoin, since its launch in the year 2009, has never looked back climbing to new highs with every passing day, over 6,000$ recently. Blockchain technology is also been actively employed in many other services and commodities like the qualifications, credits, and badges.

The core of the Blockchain technology, blocks, where each block is transparent and tamper-proof. Every block has a timestamp for recording transactions. Rather than, taking the user to any third-party, it is a decentralised model for transacting with one another.

The central idea of this technology is to cut the role of middleman since the database is public, distributed, synchronised and encrypted, there is no centralised authority. All the transactions are recorded with a time, date, and other details,- then, verified by supercomputers in the form of complicated maths problems.

With this, Blockchain promises an efficient, secure, and transparent medium of financial transactions. In the years to come by, it could save time and money for government and organisations.

Academies and Universities Investing on Blockchain

Many top academies and universities across the globe are investing in Blockchain technology to safely record the degree data. This, indeed help in trimming down of administration costs for keeping data of degrees. Especially, for Universities, with kind of `massive deal they have to deal with, Blockchain is a worthy investment, not only to maintain the transparency and data, and stay clear of any internal conspiracy. Blockchain will present a system to universities and colleges where the academics of candidates can be validated easily, even if he or she was part of one decade back batch.

So, to say the least, Blockchain, if incorporated properly it is bound to free-up our education system from scams and frauds.

Distance Learning

The director of the Knowledge Media Institute,  John Domingue at the United Kingdom’s open university, dealing with distance learning recently foretold, blockchain has the new big thing for higher education distance courses.

Distance degrees, even in today’s digital age, a distance degree doesn't get equal recognition compared to a professional college degree, owing to the fact there are many universities issuing  degrees illegally without having a proper infrastructure. But, blockchain is going to shape the ecosystem of distance learning for the betterment, by bringing in transparency in terms of records, from personal data to results.

Blockchain- the Next Big Thing

Many studies and research are been done on developing a secure, distributed ledger to keep a record of all the academic qualifications of students-, University level, state, or the nation wise.  If implemented, universities can ratify a student's degree on the blockchain database. What’s more, it will facilitate companies to know whether the complete data provide by one of their employees is correct or not.

This will ensure that universities will have to maintain a small unit of people dealing with the queries of employers related to the credibility of the degree obtained by any of their employees. Universities would easily go through the blockchain degree database and check whether a particular individual has done his or her graduation done under its banner or not.

The United Kingdom currently has in place a centralised system to check whether the claims made by any individual about his or her academic qualification is correct or not. The Higher Education Degree Datacheck service plays a pivotal role in making the education clean and efficient. Some time back, it reported, one in every four CVs contains lies about degrees.

From the above, it's quite clear, that the Blockchain holds something big for modernising and betterment of the global education landscape.
